Soundwalk (audio tours)

Soundwalk (audio tours)

A Soundwalk is a commercial audioguide inspired by the works of Chris Hardman, Janet Cardiff and Hildegard Westerkamp.

Principle

Whereas the audioguide limits itself to a description of the visited places, a Soundwalk is based on a film-like scenario narrated by a real local insider.

It includes a music soundtrack, as well as the recording of the actual ambience corresponding to the place in which the listener is walking - so that it is never possible to distinguish whether what's heard comes from the Soundwalk or is actually happening in reality.

Also, a Soundwalk has to follow a precise timing, so that the listener can walk naturally at the rhythm of the Soundwalk.

Examples

Several Soundwalks have been made for the city of New-York : Chinatown, Lower East Side, Ground Zero, Wall Street... and more recently for the city of Paris in France : Belleville, Saint-Germain des Prés...

A Soundwalk has also been made for the Da Vinci Code (movie) in the musée du Louvre.

Celebrities that have played a part for Soundwalks include Virginie Ledoyen, Jean Reno and Paul Auster.
