Phong Bui

Phong Bui (born September 17, 1964, in Hue, Vietnam) is an artist, writer, and independent curator. He is currently a curatorial advisor at P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center, Museum of Modern Art affiliate. Two of his installations in 2006 won him the Award in Art from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, and the Eric Isenbeurger Annual Prize for Installation from the National Academy Museum. His work has been included in group exhibitions at Pierogi, the Brooklyn Museum of Art, and the North Dakota Museum of Art. Bui has taught and lectured at Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, Columbia University, Cooper Union, Bard College, Haverford College, and the School of Visual Arts. He has won an Arcadia Traveling Fellowship, a Hobenberg Traveling Fellowship, and a Pollock-Krasner Foundation Fellowship. He is also editor and publisher of the monthly journal The Brooklyn Rail, which offers critical perspectives on arts, politics, and culture in New York City and beyond, as well as "The Brooklyn Rail/Black Square Editions", a publishing venture that focuses on experimental poetry, fiction, artists' writings, interviews with artists, and art criticism. He lives in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.

In 2008, Phong Bui curated "MINUS SPACE" at P.S. 1 Contemporary Art Center. It was a survey of 54 artists from 14 countries affiliated with MINUS SPACE curatorial project located in Brooklyn, NY and marked its 5th anniversary. [MINUS SPACE, home ]
