Queensmead School

Queensmead School

Queensmead School is a comprehensive co-educational day school located on Queens Walk, South Ruislip in Hillingdon, England. It is near RAF Northolt and the Polish War Memorial on the A40. The nearest tube station, South Ruislip, on the Central Line is a 5 minute walk away.

History

Queensmead opened in the 1950s as "Queensmead Secondary Modern School". It was originally designed to cater for 450 students, but the school has kept pace with an increasingly technological world, adding buildings and investing heavily in computer infrastructure and equipment. The school is designated as a Foundation School and a specialist Technology College. There are approximately 1,200 pupils on the roll, with 250 in the increasingly popular Sixth Form. The headteacher is very experienced and during his headship examination results have steadily improved and GCSE results are now well beyond local and national averages. Good examination results for students of all abilities are a major focus of the school.

Academic Results

In 2008 77% of students gained 5 A*-C grades at GCSE and all of them gained 5 or more A*-G grades. The value added (i.e. the results students achieve in comparison to their ability level) is high. The school underwent an OFSTED [http://www.ofsted.gov.uk/oxedu_reports/display/(id)/94134] inspection in March 2008 and gained the highest grade, 'outstanding'. At A level in 2008, on average, students gained 722 QCA points.
