woreda s in theOromia Region ofEthiopia . It is named after theNono Oromo , a subgroup of theMacha Oromo , who live in this area.Part of the
Mirab Shewa Zone , Nono is bordered on the southwest by theGibe River which separates it from theJimma Zone , on the northwest by Dano, on the north byCheliya , on the northeast byTikur , on the east by Amaya, and on the southeast by theSouthern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples Region . The major town in Nono is Shanan.Based on figures published by the Central Statistical Agency in 2005, this woreda has an estimated total population of 129,150, of whom 65,252 were males and 63,898 were females; 4,225 or 3.27% of its population are urban dwellers, which is less than the Zone average of 12.3%. With an estimated area of 1,248.75 square kilometers, Nono has an estimated population density of 103.4 people per square kilometer, which is less than the Zone average of 152.8. Nono was selected by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in 2003 as an area for voluntary resettlement for farmers from overpopulated areas. That year this woreda became the home for a total of 590 heads of households and 391 total family members.
