The Centre International de Recherche Théâtrale (or "International Centre for Theatre Research") was an organisation founded in Paris in 1970 by theatre director Peter Brook. The purpose was to develop new experimental forms of theatre.
The group attracted actors including Helen Mirren and Andreas Katsulas.
One of Brook's aims with this organisation was to develop a theatre without language - one that could be understood by anyone in any culture, without the need for a language or cultural assumptions in common with the actors. This resulted in tours through Africa and Asia. One tour through the deserts of North Africa is documented in the book "Conference of the Birds".
In 1973 it was renamed the Centre International de Création Théâtrale.
