Edwin Thorne, II (
20 December 1914 ,New York City –15 October 2002 ,Grand Junction, Colorado ) was a member of a prominent American family.Senator John Kerry was married to Thorne's niece. Thorne attended Pomfret,Yale College , and the Advanced Management Program atHarvard Business School . Beginning in 1941, he served in the U.S. Navy, where he attained the rank of lieutenant commander on theUSS Sutton until 1945.Ed Thorne was a senior member of management at First National Citibank from 1955 to 1964. In 1958 he was responsible for the bank's expansion throughout
Europe ,Africa and theMiddle East . When he leftCitibank , he became a founding partner in Greylock, one of the earliest and most successful venture capital firms in the United States. He was a director of Chubb Co.,International Banking Corporation ,First Boston Corporation ,First National City Trust Board and thePutnam Trust Company .Ed Thorne was a keen sailor and skier. He resided in
