Aram Asatryan (3 March 19537 November 2006) ( _hy. Արամ Ասատրյան) was an Armenian pop singer and songwriter known for his energetic concerts and music.

Life

Aram Asatryan was born in Echmiadzin, Armenia, the son of Hapet Asatryan and Ashken Mampreyan. He was born to a refugee family. Ever since his childhood years he had been a prodigal musician. In the year of 1985, his band was formed, consisting of members Levon Abryamyan, Khatchik Sahakyan, Souren Gasparyan, and Simon Sisoyan. He became known throughout the world for his voice and his musical styling. Aram loved to work and he devoted his life to music. He approached positive things and was confident about himself. His love for his country and the Armenians as well as other ethnic groups are expressed in his songs. When Armenia was in conflict, he performed songs for the soldiers and Armenians in general for moral support.

Aram performed many concerts in Asia, Europe, Russia, the Middle East and many cities in Armenia. He has written over 500 songs and constantly held world tours. Throughout his life he had received many awards such as the “Gusan” he was awarded on April 18, 2003 from the Cultural Music Ministry in Armenia. Until his passing, he resided in the United States. He believed his music would pass on from generation to generation.

Death

Aram Asatryan died on 2006-11-07 at Oshakan in the Aragatsotn region, from an apparent heart attack. He was at a baptism being the godfather of an Armenian family. The fatal attack happened at about 19:00 local time. He did not show early symptoms as it was reported that he was in a very good and warm mood. He was surrounded with his close relatives. He is grieved by his fans and the Armenian nation has taken a big loss from his death, as he is/was considered the original Armenian pop singer of modern times, and the "voice of Hayastan". the entire Asatryan family is considered to be a big contribution to the pop music of Armenia

Note: his son Setrak (Seto) died in a tragic automobile accident approx. 1 year before Aram's death, which left Aram in a very sad depressed grieving state up until his return trip to Armenia in 2006
