Moreno was raised in a small mining town and worked in a mine before going to Mexico City where he began boxing. He did not fight as an amateur and turned professional at age 17 on June 16, 1954 [http://www.cyberboxingzone.com/boxing/wail900_cuoco.htm] .
Professional career
Known as "Pajarito", Moreno was a heavy puncher, having won 19 of his first 20 fights with all 19 of his wins by kayo. In 1958 he was given a shot at the World Featherweight Title against
Kid Bassey , but was KO'd in the third round. This would be Moreno's only shot at a world title. After suffering two consecutive knockout defeats in 1967, Moreno retired. His career record was 60-12-1, with 59 kayos. His only victory that wasn't a knockout was a disqualification victory.Due to his incredible knockout power, Moreno was named to the
