United Democratic Forces

The United Democratic Forces ( _bg. Обединени Демократични Сили) is an electoral alliance in Bulgaria. After being in government with prime minister Ivan Kostov the United Democratic Forces lost the 2001 elections, decreasing to 18.2% of the popular vote and 51 out of 240 seats. Ivan Kostov resigned as chairman after this defeat. The UDF had suffered heavily from allegations of corruption and increased unemployment after having carried out a difficult four-year term. With time Kostov grew increasingly dissatisfied with the new UDF leadership and chairwoman Nadezhda Mikhailova, who was a popular foreign minister in Kostov's own government. At the last legislative elections, 25 June 2005, the UDF won 8.4% of the popular vote and 20 out of 240 seats. It was formed by the following parties:

*Union of Democratic Forces ("Sajuz na Demokraticnite Sili")
*Democratic Party ("Demokraticeska Partija")
*Bulgarian Agrarian People's Union-United ("Balgarski Zemedelski Naroden Sajuz-Obedinen")
*George's Day Movement ("Dviženie Gergiovden")
*Movement for an Equal Public Model ("Dviženie za ravnopraven model DROM")
