Ysgol Clywedog, is a comprehensive school which serves parts of the town of Wrexham in north-east Wales.

Ysgol Clywedog is located in the south-west suburbs of Wrexham. It is Wrexham's oldest secondary school and was originally known as "Ysgol Bryn Offa", when it opened in 1960. The school takes its name from the nearby River Clywedog.

Reorganisation

In 2001, Wrexham County Borough Council decided to reorganise the secondary schools of Wrexham to increase their capacity and to update ageing infrastructure by merging schools and extensively modernising the two remaining schools. The "Groves High School" (formerly "Grove Park Grammar School") would be closed, and the remaining two, "St Davids" and "Ysgol Bryn Offa", would be renamed and refurbished. This was opposed by several staff, parents and pupils of all three schools, and a petition bearing more than 1000 names was made during 2002, but was largely ignored after the Welsh Assembly Government reinforced the local councils decision. In 2003, the work began on the schools. [http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/north_east/3058081.stm (1)]

In 2004, the school was renamed Ysgol Clywedog and was given a new colour logo and uniform to match the change.

Both Ysgol Clywedog and Rhosnesni High School were dubbed 'super schools' by the media and the local council, as they would handle 2500 pupils each.
