- Arthur Bourinot
Arthur Stanley Bourinot (
3 November 1893 –17 January 1969 ) was a Canadian poet and lawyer.Born in
Ottawa, Ontario , the son of Sir John George and Lady Isabelle Bourinot, he served in theCanadian Army andRoyal Flying Corps (later theRoyal Air Force ) duringWorld War I . He was held as aprisoner of war from 1918 to 1919. After the war, he completd his education at theUniversity of Toronto and received his legal training fromOsgoode Hall Law School . He was called to the Ontario Bar in 1920. He practiced law in Ottawa until retiring in 1959.While a lawyer, he published his poems. In 1939, he was awarded the
Governor General's Award for English language poetry or drama for his collection of poems, "Under the Sun". He was the editor of the "Canadian Poetry Magazine" from 1948 to 1954 and from 1966 to 1968. He was an associate editor of "Canadian Author and Bookman" from 1953 to 1960.He was a personal friend of other Canadian poets especially in the Ottawa area, among them
