Corporal Rodney Wilson was a British soldier from the A Company, 4th Battalion
The Rifles . In June 2007 he became the 150th member of theBritish armed forces to die in theIraq War . Wilson had been part of a patrol carrying out a search-and-detention operation in the Al Atiyah district, north west of Basra City when he was hit bysmall arms fire as he rescued a wounded colleague under heavy insurgent fire. He was flown to the Britishfield hospital inBasra , but died from his wounds. After his death, his commanding officer Lt Col Patrick Sanders said that "It was a supremely selfless and brave act — he would not have thought twice — and he gave his life that one of his beloved riflemen might live."
