Rodney Wilson

Corporal Rodney Wilson was a British soldier from the A Company, 4th Battalion The Rifles. In June 2007 he became the 150th member of the British armed forces to die in the Iraq War. Wilson had been part of a patrol carrying out a search-and-detention operation in the Al Atiyah district, north west of Basra City when he was hit by small arms fire as he rescued a wounded colleague under heavy insurgent fire. He was flown to the British field hospital in Basra, but died from his wounds. Wilson had previously earned a distinction in the Platoon Sergeant's Battle Course at Brecon, which placed him in the top 2% of infantry soldiers. After his death, his commanding officer Lt Col Patrick Sanders said that "It was a supremely selfless and brave act — he would not have thought twice — and he gave his life that one of his beloved riflemen might live."
