End of year rugby tests

End of year rugby tests

The End of year rugby tests or Autumn internationals are a series of rugby union matches contested each November, usually all within the northern hemisphere, specifically in those nations that contest the Six Nations Championship. They play against touring sides from Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. In addition, second-tier nations such as North American and Pacific countries will also tour. Each side typically plays three or four Test matches, and may choose to play games against provincial or "A" teams.

The Grand Slam

A touring nation may also have the opportunity to complete a Grand Slam. This is achieved by beating the four home unions of England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Australia achieved its only grand slam in 1984, New Zealand in 1978 and 2005, and South Africa in 1912, 1932, 1952 and 1961.
