Verhey got her first
violin when she was 7. Recognized soon as achild prodigy , she went to study at age 8 withOskar Back . Later she studied withHerman Krebbers ,Bela Dekany ,Wolfgang Schneiderhan . After winning the Oskar Back competition, she got a scholarship to study one year withDavid Oistrakh inMoscow . Riccardo Chailly ,Bernard Haitink ,Mariss Jansons ,Leonard Bernstein ,David Zinman ,Jean Fournet and with fellow violinistsYehudi Menuhin ,David Oistrakh ,Igor Oistrakh . She has also played with soloistsYouri Egorov ,Janos Starker andMaria João Pires . She has performed in Europe, the United States, Israel and Japan. She is known for her solid technique and her warm and rich tone. Her repertoire spans all the range from early to contemporary music.Verhey taught the violin at Utrecht's Conservatory from 1983 to 2002. In 1991 she co-founded the
Camerata Antonio Lucio , a string ensemble whose repertoire includes works from the 18th to the 21st century.She has recorded works by

Earl Spencer ', aStradivarius from 1723 which she played until she bought aGuarneri from 1676 in the late nineties.Awards and distinctions
In 1966 she was a finalist [Some sources state that she was the winner of the competition, but it was Viktor Tretyakov who won that year in the violin category] in the prestigious
