Goan is the demonym used to describe the people of the Indian state of Goa. "Goanese" is an incorrect usage for the same, and is considered offensive by some. [cite web

Goans comprise a predominantly Hindu and Roman Catholic population and a small Muslim community. The state displays a strong Portuguese influence, because of the 451 years as a Portuguese colony. It was then a part of the Estado da India. Portuguese names are common among the Christians and a few Goans have Portuguese ancestryFact|date=April 2008.

Goans are mostly of the Konkani or Marathi ethnicities.
