St John's Maroon Church

St John's Maroon Church

St. John's Maroon Church is a historical building located in Freetown, Sierra Leone. Built in 1820, it is a small white building with colonial architecture named after the Maroons or runaway slaves (in the case of Freetown, the term is used for former Jamaican Maroon warriors that were sent to Freetown). They were known in Freetown as the Maroon settlers. It was declared a national heritage site in 1956 under the Monuments and Relics Ordinance of 1 June 1947.
