Auberon Thomas Herbert, 9th Baron Lucas and 5th Lord Dingwall, PC (25 May 1876 – 3 November 1916) was a British peer, politician and fighter pilot.
Herbert was the second, but eldest surviving son of The Hon. Auberon Herbert (a younger son of the 3rd Earl of Carnarvon) and his wife, the former Lady Florence Cowper (a daughter of the 6th Earl Cowper). He was sometime a Captain in the Hampshire Yeomanry (Carabiniers), was wounded as a war correspondent during the Boer War and later became a captain in the Royal Flying Corps. Herbert's elder brother, Rolf, had died in 1882 and his mother in 1886 and so in 1905 (as the nearest heir) he inherited the Barony of Lucas and the Lordship of Dingwall (which are able to pass through female descent) from his maternal uncle, the 7th Earl Cowper.
From 1907-08, Lord Lucas was Private Secretary, and then Parliamentary Under-Secretary from 1908-11 (and a member of the Army Council) to the Secretary of State for War, Richard Haldane. He was briefly Parliamentary Under-Secretary to the Secretary of State for the Colonies, Lewis Vernon Harcourt, in 1911 and then Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Agriculture and Fisheries from 1911-14 before being admitted to the Privy Council in 1912 and being the Board's President from 1914-15.
In 1916, Lord Lucas went missing and was presumed killed during a flight over German lines during World War I. His titles passed to his sister, Nan.
