Kalaske Cheema

Inhabited by around 35,000 individuals Kalaske Cheema is situated in Teh Wazirabadon on the Alipur Chatha road about 15 km (10 miles) west of the Gujranwala City, [Punjab (Pakistan) Pakistan and about 90 km (55 miles) NW of the provincial capital Lahore.

It is surrounded by many villages To the east, west and north lie Gujranwala, Chak Sada, Derveshkey, Ahmed Nagar Chatha and Alipur Chatha respectively. The adjoining villages are dominated by Cheema:(چیمہ). After 1947 Jat Sikhs and Hindus migrated to India and a number of people came to these villages after partition in 1947 and most of them belong to Arain, Rajput and Gujjar tribes.

Adjoining villages

The adjoining villages are Bajumal Warraich, Chak Sada (Kalan & Khurd), Darveshke of Hakeem Darvesh Cheema; Great Hakeem and Sufi of during the Mughal Empire of Shah Jahan, Chak Baig, Kot Qazi, Kot Qadir, Hassanwali, Ladhewala Cheema, Millanwali, Dehla Chattha, Bhoman Bath, Kot Jahangir, Kot Bangish, Ghari Jalah, Kot Proya, Dera Jamun and some other. The people living in these villages are mainly farmers, working in state departments and some run their own businesses.

History

History of Kalaske cheema is long and wide-reaching in its significance. Historical consensus is that it existed in the time of Mughals and even before them. There are few historical buildings and ruins in and around. In the time of Sher Shah Suri (Urdu: شیر شاه سورى) a road was built to link the town to Gujranwala and Alipur Chattha and the cities beyond them and it still exists. It has a history of more Three hundred years. First called it as Kalash Garh. Kalas and Derwash were two brothers. The land of Kalaske comprised Kot Bangash Cheema, Kot Jahanger Cheema, Bomanh Batth which are also major villages of Cheema Clan.Both Kot Qazi's were the Land of Cheema family inhabited in Chak Baig and Kalaske Cheema. In British rule the land of these villages was allotted to Qazi family. It is the centre of the cultivated lands, the town was famous for its "Mandi" (market) for cash crops. The market was mainly handled by the Hindus and Sikhs but more recently is being run by Muslims following the establishment of Pakistan. The nearby villages are also historically important.

Minorities

There are around 500 Christian people living in this area. An English Medium School "Amir Public School" was opened in 1980 by Master Fazal (in the name of his son Amir). He was elected as Member union council. Soon after Master fazal became most popular personality of the area by winning election of District Council Guranwala. Master Fazal was also responsible to provide electricity connections in the areas beside Kalaske like Garhi Jala, Kot Proyia. Master Fazal was honoured and loved by not only Christen people of the area, He was also seen with great respect in Muslim community. Master Fazal died in 1992, when his nephew Wasim Lazrus continued the legacy of his uncle by improving life of christens of the area. Wasim is well known Politian of Gujranwala and Member of Tahsil Council as well. Son of Master Fazal…Amir Davis (Tipu) is currently working in Intel Ireland as a product Engineer.

Economy

The principal industries include manufacturing of light mechanical equipments and recently established Sialkot based football industry called Saga Sports. The daily business and shopping by adjoining villages here in this town is another addition to its economy. Several small industrial units have been established here which are contributing and playing their roles.

Besides all this, the fields of Kalaske produce best quality rice famous around the world and contains two grain markets which have earned their names of providing splendid and gorgeous quality rice called Basmati. Thanks to the system of irrigation i.e. canals and tube wells, Kalaske produces sugarcane, wheat, potatoes and a wide range of pulses and vegetables and putting forth towards development by taking place each day.
