2007 ASEAN Football Championship

2007 ASEAN Football Championship

The 2007 ASEAN Football Championship finals was hosted jointly by Singapore and Thailand from January 12 to February 4, 2007, and involved all full members of the ASEAN Football Federation. This is the last major event to be held at the National Stadium in Singapore before its planned redevelopment.

Singapore successfully defended their championship on February 4 after a 1–1 draw with Thailand at Suphachalasai Stadium, winning 3–2 on aggregate. This was preceded by a controversial 2–1 first-leg win at the National Stadium, Singapore, four days earlier.cite news|title = Thai's shameful walk-off sullies ASEAN final|url = http://sports.yahoo.com/sow/news?slug=reu-asiasingapore_picture&prov=reuters&type=lgns|work = Yahoo|date = 2007-01-31| accessdate = 2007-01-31]

Knockout stages

It is important to note that although the knockout stages were two-legged, away goals rule was not applied. If the total aggregate score of both teams after both matches remained the same, extra time would have been played, followed by penalty shootout if necessary.
