CKBB (AM) was launched on
August 31 ,1949 byRalph Snelgrove 's Barrie Broadcasting Company at AM 1230. It signed on as Barrie's first radio station and was initially a mixture of music and talk programming. It moved to AM 950 in 1958. In December 1983, the station was acquired by Kawartha Broadcasting and in 1987 owership passed to the broadcasting arm ofPower Corporation of Canada .In November 1994, after more than 45 years on the AM dial, CKBB moved to FM as CIQB-FM at 101.1 MHz. The station became known as "Barrie's B101." CIQB was acquired by
Corus Entertainment in April 2000.It was the period of 1997-2007 under the guidance of program director

On February 21, 2004, Stevens created "The Monkey" a new format overnight show on B101 hosted by Choo Choo - a monkey! A parody of the various Jack/Bob radio formats at the time,The monkey played music from the current playlist as well as novelty songs, parodies & comedy bits.
Stevens recruited guest dj's to host the Saturday night retro show including
Glass Tiger and world champion figure skaterJennifer Robinson making her radio-hosting debut.B101 had grown with the community and has built a solid reputation for Barrie’s local news, up-to-date traffic and weather reports, exciting and entertaining contests and promotions with lots of community involvement, and has received numerous national nominations and awards for its programming, creative and community service.
B101 is an "adult top 40" format... playing "Barrie's Hit Music" from such artists as Rihanna, Pink, Chris Brown, Justin Timberlake, Gwen Stefani, Usher and more.
