Sekharipuram is a village in the
Palakkad district ofKerala state inIndia .It is widely believed that this village was the first settlement of Tamil
Iyers inKerala . King Sekharavarma Raja who was on throne at that time invited the Tamil Iyer community fromMayavaram ,Kumbakonam ofThanjavur district ofTamil Nadu state to perform poojas and otherHindu vedic rituals to maintain sanathana dharma. The name Sekharipuram is derived from the name of the king.Sekharipuram village consists of 5 streets and 5 Temples; the streets are Double Street, Palamettu Street, Kavu Street, Mettu Street and Palla Street. The main deities of the village are Bhumi Nila Sametha Sree Lakshminarayana Perumal and Santhi Durga Parameswari (Kavu) temple. Other temples include Ganapathy temple, Sree Dharma Sastha temple and
Siva temple.This year the Utsavam starts on 30th April and also the Kumbhabhishekam of Lord Shiva temple ,Lord Ayyappa Temple and Balaganapthy Temple will be conducted on 18th May and Kumbhabhishekam of Lord Lakshminarayana and Emoor Bhagavathy will be conducted on 21st May 2007.A big gathering is expected and the Grama Jana invites all to witness the rare occasion and get blessed.
