October 27 ,1793 –June 20 ,1860 ) was an Anti-Lecompton Democratic member of theU.S. House of Representatives fromPennsylvania .John Schwartz was born in
Sunbury, Pennsylvania , the son of Philip Michael Schwartz and Mary Margaret Schlosser. He received a limited schooling, and at the age of ten years was apprenticed to a merchant inReading, Pennsylvania . He became a partner at the expiration of his apprenticeship. Schwartz served in theWar of 1812 as a major, and was engaged in the manufacture ofiron products.Schwartz was elected as an Anti-Lecompton Democrat to the Thirty-sixth Congress and served until his death in
Washington, D.C. in 1860. Interment in Charles Evans Cemetery in Reading, Pennsylvania.Cenotaph atCongressional Cemetery .He married Elizabeth Wood, daughter of Michael Wood.
