"The Great Gatsby" is a 1949 film made by Paramount Pictures. It was directed by Elliott Nugent and produced by Richard Maibaum, from a screenplay by Richard Maibaum and Cyril Hume based on the novel of the same title by F. Scott Fitzgerald and the play by Owen Davis. The music score was by Robert Emmett Dolan and the cinematography by John F. Seitz. The production was designed by Roland Anderson and Hans Dreier and the costumes by Edith Head.

The film stars Alan Ladd, Betty Field, Macdonald Carey, Ruth Hussey, Barry Sullivan with Shelley Winters, Howard Da Silva and Elisha Cook Jr.

This version was the second film version of the novel, after the 1926 silent version, which is now considered a lost film because no prints are known to exist. The story was filmed again in 1974, with Robert Redford and Mia Farrow and in 2000, for television, with Toby Stephens and Mira Sorvino.
