The Oaks Shopping Center is a two-level enclosed, super-regional shopping mall located in Thousand Oaks, California. It is owned and managed by Macerich. Highly accessible from the US Highway 101 Ventura Freeway midway between downtown Los Angeles and Santa Barbara, it is one of two malls in its area (competing with the Simi Valley Town Center). The convert|1300000|sqft|m2|sing=on mall was originally built in 1978 and was renovated in 1993. Staring in Feb. 2007, the center has undergone an extensive upgrade including interior finishes, restrooms, entrance canopies and skylights to reflect a modern Spanish and Santa Barbara-influenced design. The expansion will include a Muvico 14-screen stadium seat theater with four theaters reserved for 21-and-over seating. Bogarts, a full serve restaurant offers cocktails and delicious bites before or during the show. Additional features include a 10-unit Spanish Dining Hall and luxurious amenities like family restrooms with granite, stacked flagstone and limestone tile. Centered around the theatre are four (4) sit-down restaurants--Ruth's Chris Steak House, Devon Seafood Grill, Lazy Dog Cafe--connected to a convert|112330|sqft|m2|sing=on retail expansion in an outdoor environment. The project will begin opening in phases starting with a 138,000 square foot NORDSTROM department store on Sept. 5, 2008. The expansion will open on Oct. 17, 2008 followed by Muvico Theaters and the restaurants.
