The firm was founded in 1924 with the merger of two firms, Worthington, Stettinius & Strong, which had been practicing law in Cincinnati since 1885, and Taft & Taft, the firm consisting of
Robert Taft and his brotherCharles Phelps Taft II . The firm's labor department was founded byJ. Mack Swigert who became nationally prominent after assisting the late SenatorRobert Taft in the drafting and passage of the ground-breakingTaft-Hartley Act over the veto of PresidentHarry S. Truman .The firm has been heavily involved in the life of Ohio, having worked on such projects as the
