The shorttail catshark, "Parmaturus" sp. A, is an undescribed cat shark of the family Scyliorhinidae, the only specimen known having been found off the coast of Queensland on a deepwater plateau at 590 m. Its length is 72 cm. The extremely rare shorttail catshark has a soft flabby body with a velvety skin. It has a long pointed snout, small gill slits, large triangular anterior nasal flaps, and ridges under the eyes. There are crests of saw-like denticles along the top of the tail and also below. The first dorsal fin is smaller than the second.

Coloration is pale yellowish-brown above, lighter below, with all fins having paler margins.

Reproduction is oviparous.
