The Bosatlas is the most used Dutch
atlas . It is used in most schools and has the largest circulation in the Netherlands.History
The atlas was started by P.R. Bos, a teacher from Groningen. The first atlas was published in
1877 with the name "Bos' Schoolatlas der geheele aarde". Later editions were named "Bosatlas".The reason for first publication was the introduction of
geography in (former) Dutch high schools. The maps were originally drawn by hand. The publisher wasWolters , who continued to publish the atlas asWolters-Noordhoff .P.R. Bos was editor of the atlas until the 15th edition of 1902. The present edition is the 53rd.
