East Riding of Yorkshire local government area ofEngland . It is situated approximately 6mile s west ofGoole on theA1041 road at its junction with theA645 road . It lies amile to the north of theM62 motorway and just south of theRiver Aire .It is served by a railway station on the
Pontefract Line fromLeeds toGoole .The town of Snaith,
East Cowick andWest Cowick form thecivil parish ofSnaith and Cowick .Snaith has around 5000 inhabitants. It is the focal point of the local rural area and home to the local schools (primary and secondary), both with very good reputations. Local amenities include: Co-op, paper shop, petrol station, sandwich shop, post office, 5 pubs (The Bell And Crown, The Black Lion, Downe Arms, Plough Inn & The Brewers Arms) , 4 hairdressers, chemist, doctors surgery and hardware store, amongst other things. They are plenty of places to stay in the village as most of the public houses offer over night accommodation.
The village exit/entry to the M62 is approximately 5 miles away, giving great access to Hull, Doncaster, Goole, Leeds and Castleford. The Historic town of Selby is located 7 miles from Snaith and you would travel via Carlton and Camblesforth on your way.
Snaith was part of the
Goole Rural District in theWest Riding of Yorkshire from 1894 to 1974, then in Boothferry district ofHumberside until 1996.
