- The Good-Time Girl
"The Good-Time Girl" aka "The V.D. Polka" is a song from the musical "
Over Here! ", which opened on Broadway at theShubert Theatre (Broadway) onMarch 6 ,1974 . It was sung byPatty Andrews in aU.S.O. style parody similar toRodgers and Hammerstein 's "Honey Bun" from "South Pacific". In the song Andrews warns the GIs to beware of the "Good Time Girl" because: cquote
:Though she may look like Venus... :She might not be the cleanest!"The song was written by
Robert B. Sherman andRichard M. Sherman .Trivia
Ten years prior to "
Over Here! ", in 1964, theSherman Brothers wrote "The North Pole Polka " forWalt Disney 's "Mary Poppins". "The North Pole Polka" was a much more gentle song than "The V.D. Polka". The former was about Polar Bears dancing in the snow. That song was eventually dropped from the "Mary Poppins" score, however.External links
