The Source Mall (Also known as The Mall at the Source or simply The Westbury Mall) is a shopping mall located in Westbury, New York on Old Country Road and Merchants Concourse (Ellison Avenue). It has many stores including Fortunoff, Steve and Barry's, Old Navy, and New York & Company. It also has restaurants such as The Cheesecake Factory, P. F. Chang's China Bistro, and Cold Stone Creamery.

History

The site of the Source Mall started out in 1964 with the opening of Fortunoff, which relocated from Brooklyn. (The Westbury store at The Source Mall remains the chain's flagship.) The surrounding area served as landscape and parking. To the east was an Ohrbach's department store. The two merchants coexisted on the site for more than two decades.

In the late 1980s Fortunoff planned to expand it and turn it into a shopping mall, one comparable to the size of the massive Roosevelt Field Mall a few miles away but with different stores. With the exception of PacSun, Forever XXI and a few other stores, however, there are not many similar stores in the Roosevelt Field Mall, and The Source has many outlet stores which helps it keep its eclectic shopping experience. (The mall's name comes from Fortunoff's longtime advertising nickname, The Source.)

Aside from the internal eclecticism of the Mall, it is the heart of dozens of other surrounding stores including Costco, California Pizza Kitchen, and Sports Authority. Off the property adjacent to the mall is a Target, Home Depot, AMC Loews Theater, Sprint Retail Location, and various restaurant chains . The mall was also the first to house big clothing chains H&M, and Old Navy on Long Island.

Layout

The Mall is 2 floors and is shaped like a backwards lowercase R. Because of this, the mall has separate "courts", named after the stores that anchor it (except for Center Court). Each anchor store has its own public entrance but not all have mall entrances; these stores tend to stay open later than the interior stores.

The Center Court

The Center Court is the main entrance and includes a carousel. Some of the stores in Center Court include Rosewood Home Furnishings, Steve and Barry's, P. F. Chang's China Bistro, Old Navy, Famous Footwear and The Cheesecake Factory. Cold Stone Creamery could also be considered in the Center Court, but does not have a mall entrance.

Off 5th Saks 5th Avenue Outlet Court

The Off 5th Saks 5th Avenue Outlet court is the upper tip of the R, a long hall that includes the Food Court and Off 5th Saks 5th Avenue Outlet. At the end of the 2nd floor and on the 1st floor is Circuit City and Dave & Buster's.

The Fortunoff Court

Like the Saks Court, the Fortunoff Court is a long hall, ending with Fortunoff. It has top floor entrances to Ayhan's Shish Kebab, The Cheesecake Factory and Old Navy The 1st floor contains Golf Galaxy and David's Bridal. The only elevators that provide access to the 1st floor of the Fortunoff Court are the elevators in Fortunoff. There are no elevators to the Fortunoff Court's 1st floor provided in the mall.
