George R. Blue, Sr. (
December 10 ,1916 -- December 1986), was aNew Orleans attorney who was a Democratic member of theLouisiana House of Representatives , having represented Jefferson Parish from 1964-1972. Earlier, in 1956, Blue was a Republican nominee for theUnited States House of Representatives from theOrleans Parish -based Second Congressional District. Blue failed in his GOP challenge to Democratic Congressman Thomas Hale Boggs, Sr. In the Second District, Boggs defeated Blue, 69,715 (64.5 percent) to 38,344 (35.5 percent). As a Republican candidate, Blue fared better against Boggs than the party's 1960 choice, Elliot Ross Buckley, a cousin ofmagazine publisher William F. Buckley, Jr. Elliot Buckley polled only 22 percent of the vote.Blue later switched to the Democratic Party. He was then twice elected to an at-large seat in the Louisiana House from Jefferson Parish in 1964 and 1968. His legislative tenure hence paralled the
gubernatorial administration of Democrat John Julian McKeithen.Blue's son, George R. Blue, Jr. (born
