It is a member of the familySqualidae , found on thecontinental shelf offQueensland ,Australia , at depths of between 220 and 510 m. The length of the longest specimen measured is 65 cm.The rare eastern highfin spurdog is very similar to the
bartail spurdog , "Squalus sp. A ". It has a smaller medial barbel on theanterior nasal flaps, shorter first dorsal andcaudal fin s, thicker second dorsal fin spine, and no dark marks on the caudal fin. Its distribution is further south than the bartail spurdog. Thepectoral fin s are broadly triangulat with only slightly concave posterior margins.Coloration is greyish-brown above, white below, with no white spots. The dorsal fins have dusky tips and edges, and the caudal fin posterior margin is light.
