Music Industry Piracy Investigations

Music Industry Piracy Investigations

Music Industry Piracy Investigations (MIPI) is an organisation backed by musical industry associations (in particular ARIA), and record labels in Australia such as Sony BMG and MGM Records for the purposes of enforcing copyright in music in Australia and for providing backing to investigative and preventative measures.

The website of MIPI (www.mipi.com.au) contains a comprehensive set of opinions on the legality of internet file sharing as well as its impact on recording artists and the recording industry in general. MIPI assert themselves as an authority capable of receiving "tip-offs" on copyright infringement and have contact details available. This type of assertion is more common in Australia than other parts of the world as copyright infringement is not a criminal offense.
