- Shelly Jamison
Shelly Jamison (b.1962) is a former television news reporter from the
Phoenix, Arizona area, who gained nationwide popularity as a "Playboy " magazine cover model, and the sideline reporter on the 1989 souped-uproller derby TV series "RollerGames ". Jamison majored in broadcast journalism atArizona State University . She is the daughter of Arizonarestaurant critic Elin Jeffords, and has a son, Jake, born April 1988. Her husband Ron is a Phoenixfirefighter .Jamison appeared clothed on the cover and nude inside the July 1989 issue of "
Playboy " magazine. Her appearance earned her admiration among the magazine's readers in particular because of the extraordinary shape of her "carpenters' pencil eraser" nipples. One of the select band of centrefolds who were already married before appearing in a nude shoot for the first time in Playboy. Diverging from the conventional front cover layout Shelly’s front cover displayed a series of images of her in a newscast role before ending with her jacket pulled back outlining her large breasts. Providing a juxtaposition between a respectable married career woman and the transformation to a centrefold.
In the accompanying article, she predicted that she would most likely be fired from her job at
KTSP-TV . She rationalized that her pay for the appearance (overUS$ 100,000) was more than five years' pay at the station: she did leave her job at the station after the magazine appearance. She also stated being nervous as the first photos were taken before the combined effects of a couple glasses of champagne and the feeling she felt as she removed her clothes in front of her audience, led to her beginning to relax and really enjoying the shoot. The first pictures actually showed her rather stilted poses before progressing to classic Playboy material.
She was hired for "RollerGames" in May 1989, after producers
David Sams andMichael Miller saw her picture in a "USA Today " story about the controversial Playboy appearance. As sideline reporter, Jamison interviewed the primary stars of the show such as:*the late
Ralphie Valladares ,
*Georgia Hase , and
*the "T-Bird Twins" Jennifer & Kristine Van Galder.Jamison disappeared from the public spotlight following the show's cancellation in 1990.
