University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy

The University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy is a college of pharmacy located in Lexington, Kentucky. It is part of the Chandler Medical Center of the University of Kentucky, which is dedicated to providing health care services and education.

History

The University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy has its root in the Louisville College of Pharmacy. The Louisville College of Pharmacy was estiblished in 1870 in Louisville, Kentucky. Like other pharmacy schools of that time, it was a free standing institution. In 1947, it merged with the University of Kentucky (abbreviated as "UK" below). However, the school building was still located in Louisville until 1957, when it moved to Lexington. When the Chandler Medical Center was developed within the UK, the UK College of Pharmacy was designated as part of it.

The school also provides first and second year residency programs. Graduate programs are offered by the UK College of Pharmacy in collaboration with another department of the UK, and they include Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences and Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Policy There are also the joint programs Pharm.D./MPA and Pharm.D./MBA that a student accepted to both the Pharm.D. and MPA or MBA programs can elect to take, and which would save one to two years' time to obtain both degrees.

The B.S.Pharm. degree program offered in the past was discontiuned in 1998. The one year non-traditional Pharm.D. program for people who already hold B.S.Pharm. to obtain Pharm.D. was discontinued in 2005.
