- John Gosse
Dr. John C. Gosse of
Dalhousie University in Halifax,Nova Scotia is internationally known for his research in the field ofgeomorphology (the study of landforms), and is recognized as a world leader in investigating the rate of landscape evolution via the use of cosmogenic isotopes. In 1989, Dr. Gosse received his Bachelor's degree in
geology fromMemorial University of Newfoundland . In 1994, he earned a Ph.D. fromLehigh University inPennsylvania . From 1996-2001, Gosse served as an Assistant Professor of Geology and Director of the Cosmogenic Nuclide Extraction Laboratory at theUniversity of Kansas . In 2001, he joined the faculty of Dalhousie University as a research associate. He also works as a scientific contractor for theLos Alamos National Laboratory in the U.S.A. to help address the problem ofnuclear waste disposal in the southwestern U.S.A.Dr. Gosse has brought his technique to study the glacial history of the
Rocky Mountains , weathering rates and exposure histories in theTorngat Mountains ofLabrador , the history of glacial retreat in Atlantic and Arctic Canada, and landscape evolution at theGrand Canyon and inTierra del Fuego ,Argentina . Dr. Gosse is always seeking ways of expanding and improving this analytical technique.Currently, Dr. Gosse holds two important positions at Dalhousie University, the
Canada Research Chair in Earth Systems Evolution and the Director of the only Cosmogenic Nuclide Extraction Facility in Canada.Awards
