"The Haunted Strangler" (also known as "Grip of the Strangler") is a 1958 horror film directed by Robert Day. It was adapted from "Stranglehold", a story which screenwriter Jan Read had written specially for Boris Karloff, and was shot back to back with producer Richard Gordon's "Fiend Without a Face", with both later being released as a double bill by MGM.

Plot

Set in 19th century England, the film stars Karloff as James Rankin, a novelist who is researching the twenty year old case of the Haymarket Strangler, for whose crimes a man named Styles was executed. Rankin believes that Styles was innocent, and in the course of his investigations, he learns a horrifying truth: that he, himself, has an even closer connection to the case.
