- Annette Ferguson
Annette Ferguson is a Scottish observational
astronomer who specializes in the area ofgalaxy evolution. She is currently a Reader at theInstitute for Astronomy, Edinburgh .Her research focuses on conducting observations of
star s andinterstellar gas in nearby galaxies to gain insights into the formation and evolution of systems in our ownMilky Way . Much of her recent work has focused on theAndromeda galaxy , a giant spiral galaxy in our galactic neighbourhood. Her research exploits ground-basedtelescope s in theCanary Islands ,Chile , andHawaii as well as sophisticated instruments on board theHubble Space Telescope .Originally from
Scotland , Ferguson earned a bachelor's degree inphysics and astronomy from theUniversity of Toronto in 1990 and a doctorate inastrophysics from theJohns Hopkins University in Baltimore in 1997. She previously held postdoctoral fellowships at theInstitute of Astronomy, Cambridge , theKapteyn Astronomical Institute in Groningen, the Netherlands , and was a Marie Curie postdoctoral fellow at theMax-Planck-Institut für Astrophysik inGarching ,Germany .
