James G. Donovan

James G. Donovan

James George Donovan (December 15, 1898 - April 6, 1987) was a Democratic member of the United States House of Representatives from New York.

Donovan was born in Clinton, Massachusetts. He attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 1916 until 1917. He served in the United States Navy during World War I. He attended Harvard University from 1919 until 1921. He graduated from Columbia University School of Law in 1924. He was the under-sheriff of New York County, New York from 1934 until 1941. He was a member of the New York State Senate from 1943 until 1944. He was elected to Congress in 1950 and served from January 3, 1951 until January 3, 1957. He was the New York State director of the Federal Housing Administration in 1957. He died in New York City.
