Hugh Merewether (born
May 20 ,1924 inSouth Africa ; diedSeptember 13 ,2006 ) was a Britishtest pilot who pioneered the vertical and short take-off and landing (V/STOL ) techniques that led to the development of theHawker Siddeley Harrier .Hugh Meremether was also the inventor of Ampair wind generator used predominantly by cruising sailors. The wind generators allows long range cruisers to generate electricity charging the battery banks from the free power of the trade winds.

Bill Bedford Ampair products have benefitted greatly from Hugh's direct involvement through until the late 80s and design decisions made by him have been influential until about 2005.
