- Basedow syndrome
Basedow Syndrome is a disorder characterized by the combination of
hyperthyroidism ,goitre , andexophthalmos (bulging eyes).The disorder was named after Karl Adolph von Basedow, [WhoNamedIt|synd|1517] the first doctor to describe it.
Symptoms
Symptoms include:
cardiac arrhythmia s, increasedheart rate, weight loss in the presence of increased appetite, low tolerance to heat, elevated basalmetabolism , profuse sweating, weakness, elevated protein-bound iodine level, tremor, eyelid retraction and stare.Cause
It is unknown, but it may be related to an autoimmune malfunction or disease. The ratio of onset is 4:1 in females. It is normally discovered in the third or fourth decade of life.
