History and growth

The year was 1982. Education at the foundation level was by and large, scattered and disorganized. Schools were in the hands of housewives wanting to reduce their boredom and earn some pocket money in the bargain. The observer was Mrs. Sheela Chopra, a home-wife herself, time on her hands with a merchant navy officer husband.. A long - term plan germinated in Mrs. Sheela Chopra’s mind, with a dream to establish a model and progressive senior school, meeting the aspirations of the society, particularly the residents of Salt Lake.

A concrete, though small, beginning was made but the growth was rapid. Soon even the four hired premises were not enough. The government's aid was obtained for a piece of land in the Heart of Salt Lake where the present St. Francis Xavier School stands. Hurdles surfaced, but were squarely faced, making this school a respected institution in the locality with about 1500'students on its rolls, besides the St. Francis International School and the Teachers Training College.
