History

Historically, the town of Dhoke Nawan Loke is famous due to the ancient ruins of the old civilization on Tiba. No archaeological surveys have been performed, though the village ruins are thousands of years old. Some local inhabitants participated in the Battle of Chillianwala in 1849.

People

Dhoke Nawan Loke has a population of around 5,000 with an 80 percent literacy rate. The main castes in Dhoke Nawan Loke are Sahi, Gondal,(JAT WARRIACH) Arain, and Gujjar. The most common industries are agricultural and services-related. After 1995, most of the younger people of this town preferred to travel abroad as economic migrants, resulting in around 15 percent of the natives under 35 years of age now residing in Europe and North America.

Economy

The migration of a large portion of the population changed the entire local economy; foreign capital now accounts for around 90 percent of the total income of the town. This has resulted in higher prices for real estate and agricultural property. The price of 1-acre (4,000 m2) of purely agricultural land has increased to around 800,000 Rs. Per acre non-agricultural properties in real estate have also risen to an estimated 3200,000 PK Rs (4,000 m2). The village has approximately 1,500 acres (6.1 km2) of Land.

Migration and Change in Dhok Nawan Lok

There are enormous effects of overseas migration on the household consumption, Health and Education of village people. Overseas migration and inflow of remittances have brought a significant change not only in economic but also the social status of Dhok Nawan Lok. The direct and immediate effect of overseas migration is on average household consumption. However the cost of migration is relatively higher so majority of overseas migrants does not come from the poorest portion of the village population. Although a certain minimum resources needed to go abroad but a large portion of people did not have the house hold savings so majority of the people borrowed money from their overseas immigrant relatives or sold some of their property.
