(1974)"Kohoutek-Kometenmelodie" is a recording by German band
Kraftwerk , released in Germany in 1973.The tracks released on the A- and B-sides of the single are in reverse order to the re-made versions recorded for the "Autobahn" album some months later: on this single the fast arrangement is part one and the slower arrangement part two. Drum-machine rhythm and guitar – a similar sound to that used in the early part of "Autobahn" – are the main differences of instrumentation to the later album recordings.
The title refers to the astronomer
Luboš Kohoutek , who in March 1973 had identified a comet (C/1973 E1, also known asComet Kohoutek ) that was due to pass the Earth later that year.A longer version of the B-side track "Kohoutek-Kometenmelodie 2" (4:51 compared with the 4:29 edit on the single) was included as part of a various artists compilation, "Super Group Festival", also released on the Philips label, in 1975, as a music club special edition (‘Club Sonderauflage’) sold by mail order.
