It contains over convert|400000|sqft|m2|-4 of open exhibit space and almost convert|140000|sqft|m2|-3 of group meeting space. It was finished in late 1983 along with the Hoosier Dome (later named the RCA Dome), which it is connected to. The combined cost was around $82 million. Half of the funds were private and the other half were public (taxpayer). In total, there are 48 meeting rooms and multiple food courts. Convention Center Expansion

There are developing plans to expand the Convention Center to be able to hold larger conventions. While the exact additional space has yet to be determined, the initial planning phases have begun. Construction cannot begin until the old home of the Indianapolis Colts, the RCA Dome, is demolished and removed. The iconic air lifted dome has now been deflated and plans are for a small implosion to take down the remainder of the stadium sometime in December 2008. The expansion is expected to be completed in 2010. [http://www.in.gov/iscba/convention/index.html]
