- Fulmar of Karden
Fulmar of Karden (circa 1135 – 1189), also spelled "Folmar" or "Vollmar", was the
Archbishop of Trier from 1183 and the last to not also be aprince elector . He opposed the emperor in the late twelfth-century phase of theInvestiture Controversy .His family originating from the city of
Karden on theMoselle , Fulmar became anarchdeacon in Trier. He was appointed archbishop byPope Lucius III and opposed byFrederick Barbarossa , who had the provost Rudolf invested as antiarchbishop. The schism remained until 1190, only after Fulmar's death (in Trier).
