Richmond Town Hall

Richmond Town Hall

Richmond Town Hall is a civic building located on Bridge Road in Richmond, a suburb of Melbourne, Australia.

Originally built in the 1890s in the Venetian Gothic style, consisting of polychrome brickwork and a large tower, the hall facade was remodelled in the 1930s in the Interwar Academic Classical with Art Deco decorations to become Richmond City Hall. Some sections of the rear of the building and interior spaces retain the original Victorian era detail.

After the amalgamatian of the City of Richmond with the City of Collingwood and the City of Fitzroy in 1994 to form the City of Yarra, the Town Hall became the corporate headquarters of the new Yarra City Council (City of Yarra).

The town hall was refurbished in 1991.

During the mid 1990's, the Richmond city council reported a number of bullet holes in the west-facing clock face. These were visiblefrom Bridge Road. The Richmond police station had a first-floor window facing this clock face and it is rumored that this window isthe origin of the fired shots.
