(2006)The "Too Scared To Speak EP" was the Impressionables first recorded work. It takes its name from a line in the chorus of Butterflies. It was done in the period between Steven Wishart leaving and Thomas Rushton joining so almost all the bass on the recording was performed by Christopher Morrant, the drummer.
The whole piece was recorded in the so-called "Cave of Creation", the purpose built rehearsal room that Chris's dad built for playing drums without annoying the neighbours. Everything was done with a single
microphone (a Samson Q7, similar to theSM58 ), aPentium II computer and a 1/4 inch to 1/8 inch jackadaptor so that the mic could plug straight into thesoundcard (this caused a whole number of timing issues). The guitars and drums were recorded similtaniously and the amp was placed on a barstool directly in front of the drumkit. After this bass was recorded and then vocals. Everything was done in one
take , except for vocals.Whisper, not as you may think a 11 minute epic, but it contains a secret track, known as "the Masturbation Blues", a track that changes the
tone of the recording completely. Intro was what they played to open live shows and was never really named. The recording never really enjoyed public release (a few copies were given out a gig where they weren't even playing) and most of them were given to venues in and around
London . Only a few months after it was finished, the band, with the newly joined Thomas Rushton, decided to "make a proper recording" and thus the road to Symbiotic started.Track listing
