Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge 2005

Right form the start of the competition, Hemachandra proved he had the right qualities to become a successful playback singer. For his audition into the show, he sang "Albela Sajan Aaye Re" from Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. He was selected without any hesitations from the judges. Throughout the first rounds of the show he received green cards, the highest card available which allows the singer to move on to the next round, and was repeatedly given positive feedback for his strong vocal quality. Hemachandra easily made it into the final 12. From this point on in the competition the singers were eliminated by popular public vote, not by the scores of the judges. Hemachandra gave several excellent performances and eventually made it into the top 3. After giving a beautiful performance of the song "Nahin Samne" from Taal, a performance which the judges said was the best yet on the show, Hemachandra was eliminated from the show due to an overwhelming number of votes for the other two contestants, Vinit Singh and Debojit Saha from their respective hometowns.
