Daniels Holderby Cortése, stage name Daria Cortése (born
16 February ,1982 inTrenton, New Jersey ) is an American full lyricsoprano .Cortése holds BM and MM degrees fromWestminster Choir College , where she was for four years a member of theWestminster Choir under Joseph Flummerfelt. While at Westminster she was elected toAlpha Lambda Delta (the national first-year academic honors society),Omicron Delta Kappa (the national leadership honorary) andPi Kappa Lambda (the national musician's honor fraternity). Additionally, she is an accomplishedharpist .Ms. Córtese specializes in both the
Baroque coloratura repertoire of Handel and Vivaldi and opera roles such as Mimi inGiacomo Puccini 's "La bohème ", the Countess in Mozart's "Le Nozze di Figaro", and the title character in Dvořák's "Rusalka ." Córtese is also a champion of Russianart song , often programming works byRachmaninoff ,Borodin , andTchaikovsky on her recitals. Cortése is a frequent soloist at the Newtown Handel Festival inNewtown, Pennsylvania , where she has been heard in Handel's "Dixit Dominus" and "Messiah", Haydn's "Creation", Mozart's "Requiem", and Haydn's "Lord Nelson Mass".During the 2006-07 season, Cortése was seen as Wellgunde (
Götterdämmerung ) andTituba (The Crucible ) in scenes programs atWestminster Choir College . She was also heard as thesoprano soloist inHaydn 's "Lord Nelson Mass " with the Westminster Symphonic Choir. In July 2007 she was heard as Lady Billows inBenjamin Britten 's "Albert Herring " at the Intermezzo Opera Festival, where she also covered the role of Alice Ford inGiuseppe Verdi 's "Falstaff".Cortése also maintains an active teaching career. She currently holds faculty positions at the
Peddie School inHightstown, New Jersey and theTrenton Community Music School inTrenton, New Jersey .
